President Elect

When I was invited to attend a Soroptimist Club meeting as a prospective member, I was impressed by the volume of service members gave to local and global communities. In accepting membership and having been encouraged to attend a Federation Conference, there was no mistaking that this was a great organisation where women of many cultures, faiths and traditions, could join forces to strive for a more peaceful world in which the human rights for women and girls are achieved.

Now, having been a member for 29 years, I have witnessed first hand the successes of Programme Action in my own locality and have been privileged to see firsthand the difference that our overseas members are making to the lives of women and girls within their countries and cultures. I have during this time, seen our organisation develop credible partnerships with national and international organisations, all based on what we are good at, delivering quality service.

As a former nurse and Health Visitor, as a volunteer working with victims of serious crime and latterly owner of a country house hotel, besides being a wife and mother, I bring to Soroptimism my own set of personal skills based on my career and life experiences, as do all members. Our diversity is one of our strengths.

This is a very positive time for the Federation.  We are moving into the future as an incorporated body; we will continue to contribute towards the further development and implementation of the Soroptimist International Strategy and Business Plan and we will be celebrating the Federation’s 75th anniversary year in 2009-2010.  We have a lot to celebrate!

On a personal note:

  • I will continue my contribution to the FMB (soon to become the Federation Management Committee)
  • Fulfil my duties as President Elect
  • Plan for my year as Federation President
  • With the support of the Conference Committee and the staff at Federation Office, plan the Federation Conference, to be held in Manchester 2010
