President’s message
Following a very memorable and enjoyable 50th anniversary year for the Club the theme for my year is “Let’s Grow”. As various of our stalwart members move on, we are looking for women in business and the professions to join us so we can continue working to improve the lives of women and girls both locally, nationally and internationally. My chosen charity this year Home-Start Aylesbury echoes this theme as it provides invaluable support to ordinary families with children under five who are going through extraordinary times. A number of excellent fund raising activities are planned including a golf day and literary lunch.
Locally we also continue to provide practical support to Aylesbury Women’s Refuge and Contact the Elderly. Our international project is called Project Sierra where soroptimists world wide are working in partnership with Hope and Homes for Children to improve the lives of some of the poorest women and families in the world. Together with other Clubs in the London Chilterns region we have been collecting old bra’s through the “Bag a Bra” campaign, as a fun and environmentally friendly way of raising money.
So as well as the serious side of things we do like to have fun and this year’s programme includes plenty of social events and trips. I do hope you will be abe to join us at one or more of our meetings.
