President’s message

Croeso - Welcome to the S.I. Bangor and District Web site. This is the Clubs 61st year.  We meet on a Tuesday evening twice a month.

I grew up near Richmond, North Yorkshire, and moved to North Wales in 1980. I have enjoyed a career in catering and hospitality and twelve years as an NVQ assessor and verifier. I have recently had a career change and work locally as a support worker with individuals who have learning difficulties.

I joined SI Bangor in 2002 and in my year as President the club is looking forward to having a fun and rewarding year whilst raising the profile of Soroptimists and ensuring that the club flourishes.

The theme for my year will be health, community and the environment.

We are looking forward to another interesting talk about environment and recycling, which fits well with my challenge to our club members to raise as much money as we can from things we have made from recycled materials!

For health we’ll be out walking and other fun activities which everyone can join in with to raise money for cancer charities. The garden of Alaw Ward, Ysbyty Gwynedd, will also continue to be developed.

For community we’ll be involving friends and families in these activities and continue to work towards helping  projects and charities in our local area as well as in the global community. Itala school in Zambia will be visited once again by a club member and we will look forward to an update in September.

We will also find out about how we can support women and girls with learning disabilities in the Kerala region of India when Shylu (from Menter Fachwen’s project) visits us in May.

Altogether an interesting and action-packed year ahead as we continue to embrace new ideas as well as nurturing those which are already close to our hearts.

If you are interested we would welcome you with pleasure. Please get in touch - through Contact us
