Barbados 2008
Soroptimists are Headed for Barbados!

74th Annual Conference
The beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados, home to our Federation President, will be the setting for the Federation Conference of Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland this autumn. Members from all corners of the Federation will bring partners, friends and family to what promises to be a truly invigorating conference. Members will, as always, work hard, learning from inspirational speakers and sharing with fellow members, news of projects which are furthering our aims and objectives. Conference is always a time to celebrate too and ‘playing hard’ is another aspect of the programme. There will be a Caribbean Evening with traditional food and entertainment, a government reception In Barbados, Soroptimists will celebrate the successes of the current year, those who have led the Federation Internationally, Nationally and Regionally will hand over to those elected to serve in the new Federation year which officially starts at the close of conference.

Federation President Marguerite has sent this message to members:
We look forward to welcoming members, their friends and family to the 74th Conference of Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland to be held in Barbados from 30 October to1 November 2008.
The work we do is demanding and we will have serious matters to discuss. I hope in working towards our goals we will be prepared to be bold and think big. It is a sure way to make a difference. This is only the second time a full conference will be held outside the United Kingdom and the Conference Committee is working all out to ensure not just an inspiring conference but an opportunity to enjoy Barbados and the wider Caribbean. To this end we have organized a Caribbean Evening on Friday 31 October to give you a taste of Caribbean food and entertainment while you dance to steel band music in a carnival setting.

We have obtained a very good rate at the Barbados Hilton, our Conference Hotel and I urge you to book early. There is a good selection of other hotels available, as well as villas and some home hospitality. We are going to work and play!

Federation President
