Woman in the Community Award
Each year Soroptimist International of Blackburn makes this Award to a woman who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to improving the lives of others in the community.
On Tuesday 3rd February 2009, at 1.00pm in Blackburn’s Wesley Hall on Fielden Street, we were delighted to present this year’s Award to Mrs. Anne Saville, who has a long history of helping others. In particular, Mrs. Saville has worked tirelessly with the Asylum Seeker/Refugee Project in Blackburn since its inception in 2004. Her nomination speaks of how she treats everyone with equal concern, serving people from many cultures with equality and justice, befriending others and willingly tackling the most menial of tasks.
As well as serving others, she has demonstrated an outstanding ability and courage in carrying on when many would feel it was time to retire. John East, the Asylum Seeker/Refugee Project Worker with Wesley Hall and Blackburn Cathedral, says that “she epitomises everything that is good about a multicultural society and is a role model for others.”
