A little more detail regarding recent events:

The club has supported Pathway, the organization which looks after women victims of domestic violence locally, for many years. As well as making donations of goods throughout the year members provided numerous beautifully wrapped Christmas gifts for the women and children in the refuges. These were all very well received.

Members of one of the Programme Action groups give donations for refreshments at each of their meetings. This resulted in £50.00 being available for a local charity, which was made up to £140.00 with donations from other club members. This was given to the Soup Kitchen in Mill Street to enable them to provide a Christmas Lunch for those who go there. Soroptimist Carole Holdcroft, aided by other Soroptimists and by church members, prepared, cooked and served a full Christmas meal for 50 people – and by the look of the clean plates it was enjoyed by everyone!

As in previous years, many members chose not to send Christmas cards to individual members of the club but to make a donation to the International President’s December 10th Appeal. The Cannock club was delighted to make a contribution of £210 to this year’s appeal: “Restoring Dignity, Securing a Future”.

Members of SI Cannock & District gave service early in January 09 to local charity Newlife Foundation and, in turn, to help local school children.

The charity Superstore, based in Hemlock Way, Cannock, had over 5,000 new school uniform items to give away to families. Items included shirts, jumpers, trousers, polo shirts and many more basic essentials suitable for children of all ages. Before any of these items could be given away – they were donated by a well known manufacturer – every item had to be de-labelled. Soroptimists were amongst the volunteers who worked to de-label all 5,000 items. Parents were invited to visit the store bringing with them up to two standard-sized carrier bags to fill with this clothing.
