Recent Events
A group of young carers in July 2009 took part in archery, wall climbing and the rope challenge course at the Duke’s Barn, Beeley and a great time was had by all. In December 2009 another group of young people will enjoy a very special celebratory meal and entertainment at The Ringwood Hall Hotel at Brimington.
This is a regular club commitment which gives the young people a much needed break from their responsibilities.
ACTION FOR CHILDREN
Club Member Betty Dunne kindly hosted a coffee morning at her home to raise funds for Action For Children on Saturday, 11 July 2009. In addition to coffee and biscuits members and their guests were able to purchase plants, jewelleryand other items from a variety of stalls. There was also a fundraising raffle. All proceeds from this event are to be donated to Action for Children. President Margaret Meeney sincerely thanked Betty for once more opening her home and garden for yet another worthy cause.
FASHION SHOW
In conjunction with Chesterfield College, SI Chesterfield & District recently hosted at the Ringwood Hall Hotel a fashion show, which helped to raise funds for local and international projects, including Project Sierra, Derbyshire Young Carers and Chernobul Children’s Lifeline.
Over sixty students supported by Margaret Beach, Fashion Lecturer, Elena Wynn, Head of School and other department colleagues showcased a range of collections around various themes and sources of inspiration. Students from Hair and Beauty with their programme manager, Ian Elsom, demonstrated hairdressing techniques, whilst Mark Pashley and colleagues organised lighting and music. Richard Hatton, Programme Manager for Design had organised the funding and design of the tickets. Jayne Staniforth was the dresser for the evening and Midland East Region President, Linda Moore, gave the vote of thanks, congratulating college staff and students for their outstanding achievements and depth of talent and skill on display and thank club members and their guests for supporting the event.
President’s Message
In April 2009, I was delighted and honoured to be installed as the new President for SI Chesterfield and District, taking over from Tricia Gilby, who did a wonderful job in 2008-2009. My thanks go to Tricia on behalf of the Club for her enthusiastic leadership and commitment.
In the coming months members of SI Chesterfield & District will be continuing their sterling work, with particular emphasis on children’s issues such as Young Carers, Action for Children, Chernobyl and Children’s Lifeline. The club is organising a number of events, details of which will be published on this site, so watch this space! SI Chesterfield & District are also delighted to support Dr Kay Richards and the Lassa Fever Appeal.

Soroptimist International Chesterfield & District
Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.
The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Chesterfield and District:
We take young people who are caring for family members on a summer outing such as tenpin bowling, swimming and barbeques. In December they are invited to The Ringwood Hall Hotel for a celebratory Christmas meal with entertainment and gifts.
This is a regular club commitment which gives the young people a much needed break from their responsibilities.
