PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Soroptimist International of Coleraine has been an active club since its formation in 1944; 65 years ago. I am very privileged as a relatively new member to be chosen as your President for the year 2009 - 2010.

Our club has just celebrated its 65th Charter anniversary; we must now build upon the success of this event, and the reinvigoration the club has enjoyed during the last year as we enter a new phase of development, where we intend to raise our profile locally.

This year the theme chosen is to “strive for continuous improvement”; this reflects the journey we are on as a club who through friendship, fun and mutual respect, acknowledge the need to grow and to develop and to diversify to remain effective locally, nationally and internationally.

As members we will work through: awareness, advocacy and action to meet the objectives of soroptimism. Locally we will continue to support our community in any way we can. Whilst also focusing on our overseas projects, particularly the SI quadrennial project - Project Sierra.

Membership continues to be a high priority for our club, we need to attract women to our ranks and ensure they are supported and nurtured as they become familiar with the ideals of soroptimism. Anyone wishing to become involved should give their name to our Extension and membership Convenor, Roberta Colhoun, who will ensure an invitation, is extended to attend a meeting without obligation.

Please too encourage your friends to view our website: www.soroptimist-qbi.orq

Our club is friendly and inclusive, has a broad range of experience, drawing members from across the professions in the statutory, voluntary and community sectors. We meet on the third Monday of each month (except July and August) and provide an interesting programme of speakers relevant to the objectives and ideals of soroptimism. All new members will be warmly welcomed.
