Cheque Presentation to Women’s and Children’s Aid Charity

soroptimist president presenting cheque to sefton womens and childrens aid staff

Crosby Soroptimists were delighted to welcome Lesley Paterson, Chief Executive of Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid (SWACA), to a recent meeting. President Pat Williams presented Lesley with a cheque in support of the charity’s current Leap Frog Appeal. The money had been raised at the Soroptimists’ recent “Summer Serenade” concert, with additional support from Sefton MBC’s “Express Sefton” cultural fund. Matched funding from Barclay’s Bank will bring the final total to over £1500.

In an emotional response, Lesley spoke of the current Appeal, now well on its way to raising enough funds to continue to employ specialist staff who work with children. Lesley also outlined the many financial pressures and difficult decisions that the charity is currently facing. However, the charity’s emotional and practical support for women and children who experience domestic violence continues - the demand does not diminish. SWACA staff strive to maintain high quality, free and confidential services, despite current difficulties.

In conclusion, Lesley thanked SI Crosby for its many years of support. Successive Soroptimists have served on the charity’s Board, and continue to do so; the Club financed the landscaping of the garden at the family centre; and members fundraise on a regular basis. Soroptimists worldwide work to ensure that women and girls enjoy equity and equality, and live in safe and healthy environments. Crosby’s Soroptimists play their part in this through their support for SWACA.
