£2,400 presented to Presidents’ Charity

At the end of their successful term of office, Presidents Jean Naish and Penny Veness held their Outgoing Supper on 13 November. Guests included the new Region President, Jan Doyle, Guest Speaker Murielle McClelland and Helen Carter from the Croydon Young Carers’ Support Project, for which the Club had been fundraising over the past 18 months.

President Jean was delighted to be able to present to Helen Carter our cheque for £2,400. But this is not the end of our support – the annual tea party for young carers will be held in February 2009 and Croydon Club also hopes it can support an education project for young carers, outlined by Murielle in her talk.

At the end of the evening, the Change of Insignia took place and everyone welcomed in the new Club President, Patricia Painting. Patricia will be in office until April 2010.

President Penny returns from the SIGBI Conference

The annual SIGBI Conference this year was held in Barbados at the end of October. President Penny represented both Croydon Club and Beckenham Club as a voting delegate. Apart from the main business, there was plenty of time for Penny and her husband Bob to take in some sight-seeing and to relax and enjoy good food and sunshine. Penny was invited to lunch with members from SI Barbados and we hope to maintain a link with this Club. We look forward to hearing her full report on the Conference.
