Women Walking for Women
The Southern and South Eastern England Soroptimist Clubs and Presidents of East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Lewes Clubs were delighted to welcome Federation President of SIGBI, Hilary Kay-Young and a fellow Soroptimist from Kenya as our special guests to a Walk for Women event held at the Briars on Ashdown Forest on Saturday, 29th September.
We explored the Pooh countryside by participating in pond dipping, a walk to the famous landmark Pooh Bridge duly armed with Pooh sticks and a guided filed walk indentifying different items that make up the diet of a small bird!!
A cream tea and home made cakes were a wonderful way to end an enjoyable afternoon with our special guests and fellow Soroptimists. The proceeds of the event will go to Project Sierra which is the Soroptimist International Quadrennial Project 2007-2011 and Hope and Homes for Children. Project Sierra will help some of the most deprived women and children in Sierra Leone by strengthening families at risk of breakdown, empowering vulnerable young mothers after many years of conflict caused by war.
