About our Club
Welcome to the website of our club, Soroptimist International of East London.
Soroptimist International is the world’s largest women’s service organisation with Consultative status at the United Nations. You can find a more detailed description of our organisation on our page Who Are We?
The East London club was founded in 1931 and draws its members from a wide area, covering Woodford to Hornchuch and Upminster. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm at our brand new venue, the recently restored Valentines Mansion at Ilford.
We are a small but very friendly club and are looking to recruit women who would enjoy working with us.
Meetings cover club business, planning events and engaging visiting speakers on a subject that relates to our aims. In addition we hold a range of social and fund-raising events during the year.
We support a different local charity each year and last year’s President is seen here presenting a cheque to Barnados, her charity for the year.

The money was raised from a variety of fundraising events including a quiz, strawberry tea and cheese and wine evening.
Local Soroptimist clubs are linked into Regions and our region, the London Anglia Region, holds meetings and study days about four times each year so that we can meet members from other clubs.
As well as club meetings and Regional events we contribute nationally, where we support the UK Programme Action Committee’s Stop Violence Against Women project and internationally we fund raise for Project Sierra. These projects form part of Programme Action, a concept at the heart of Soroptimism.
