Gillian on the mend after fall
On Bank Holiday Monday our long-standing club member Gillian had a fall and was admitted to hospital where it was found she had a fractured hip. Ursula Esnault visited her later that day and reported she was comfortable and in good spirits. She was hoping they would operate that night.
On Wednesday President Pat saw Gillian, at Queen Alexandra Hospital, and sent an email to the club to say she was looking remarkably well and chatted non-stop to her visitors (her sister was there too). As flowers are not allowed Pat took her a bottle of fruit cordial and some cakes as well as a card from the Club. Gillian sent her best wishes to everyone.
On Friday Ursula sent the following update: just a quick note to say that I have been to visit Gillian again this evening. She was in good spirits and pleased to see Pam Grosvenor this afternoon. She asked me to pass on the message that she is going to be transferred to Haslar Hospital tomorrow to begin rehabilitation treatment. She will be delighted to see visitors and would be pleased to have a little light reading - she seems to quite like detective novels.
She sends you all best wishes and is sorry to miss the club’s Annual Function.
Monday’s update, from Maureen:
Just to let you all know that I saw Gillian this afternoon. Her ward at Haslar is a fair way from the car park; she will be there until September 16th when the whole ward will move to the Gosport War Memorial Hospital.
Gillian was in good spirits and has got a cruise booked for 2009. She had two other visitors when I was there: June her neighbour and Mary Gilbert, a friend.
By mid-September Gillian was moved, with the rest of her ward, from Haslar to the Gosport War Memorial Hospital. visiting there is easier, if you go after 6pm and drive in the St Ann’s Hill entrance, there is plenty of parking and no charges.
She is reported to be doing very well and there is a possibility that she will be home sometime during the week of 22nd September. Meantime, if you do visit, Gillian is still short of reading material and would welcome historical or detective novels.
The latest news is that, on 25 September, Gillian came home from hospital and is in good spirits. She would still welcome visitors.
