Trip to the Isle of Wight on International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, on Sunday, 8th March, club members travelled to the Isle of Wight to an event held to raise awareness of the universal day that connects all women around the world and inspires them to achieve their full potential.
They heard a talk on women’s health and the environment by Caroline Lucas MEP, head of the UK Green Party.
Although women’s equality has progressed enormously over the last century much more needs to be done as some companies and some countries still treat women unfairly.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has been celebrated since 1908, and since 2002 Soroptimist International has held a Saturday of Service to mark IWD on the nearest Saturday to March 8th.  Last year more than 100 clubs around the world gave a few hours of hands-on service to their local communities.
