Our club is enjoying a break for August. However, we met at the beginning of the month to consider various projects we want to undertake and some of us enjoyed a lovely outing to Bletchley Park with members from SI Worcester and Malvern and SI Rugby. Back to business on Thursday September 3rd 2009.

Dear Kidderminster Soroptomists. My mother Edna Astill was twice one of your Presidents, once for your 21st year. As you might know she passed away on January 26th. I have been considering a suitable memorial . I am arranging to plant a tree at Brintons Park because actually there will be none of the 'retail' family left in Kidderminster and that will leave a growing memorial on behalf of the family strtching back to William Hyde who began a wholesale business in 1860. I wanted to provide something that would make a difference to some people. One thing might be an amount to help a chold in Africa get an eductation or a village get clean water. It is difficult to know who is the most needy apart from anything else. I then thought , it might be even more beneficial to join forces in some way. Maybe your branch is undertaking some charity work like this. Maybe there was some effort which could take on my mothers name in your branch. I would be keen to hear from you. I would consider it a priviledge if any of you would feel you would like to come to a tree planting in October when maybe we could announce something .

I am the West Midlands Community Fundraising Manager for The Children’s Trust. The Trust is a national charity, providing care for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs, and we are renowned for our services for children who have an acquired brain injury. By providing specialist education, therapy and rehabilitation for these children, they can lead as full lives as possible no matter how serious their disability.

Although we are a national charity, and we care for children from all over the UK, we are best known in the south-east, where our intensive rehabilitation unit is based. This year sees our 25th anniversary, and although we are happy to celebrate this achievement, we also want to use this year as a means to set ourselves targets for the next 25years. That means developing awareness of our work and the services we provide, in areas such as Warwickshire and the rest of the West Midlands, so that we can provide even more services to even more children.

To help me raise awareness of the Trust and its work, I am seeking opportunities to be a guest speaker at groups such as yourselves, and I would therefore very much appreciate it if you would consider having me along to one of your meetings. I am aware of how well organised the Soroptimists are, and I therefore realise that an opportunity might not present itself for some time, but perhaps you could put me on your potential list for when you next set your calendar of speakers. I would also be happy to go on your ‘emergency list’ if you have one, to cover meetings at short notice, when another speaker has perhaps been taken ill.

If you would like any further information about the Trust, please do not hesitate to contact me, or visit our website www.thechildrenstrust.org.uk

With best wishes,

Stephanie Jackson

Thank you President Shirley Bonas for organising a concert performed by some members of the City of Birmingham Sympony Orchestra on 2nd November 2008. We heard delicious light music performed by first rate musicians and raised £1,000 for our County Air Ambulance and £1,000 for Wyre Forest Dial a Ride. (The musicians were sponsored by Mitchell and Butler Brewery).
