  • We continue to provide education support forConsolata in Africa and are supporting Nikita in India.
  • CLASP (the Leicester Carers Organisation) - There is a Soroptimist on the Board of Trustees and a Soroptimist on the Fund Raising Committee. CLASP was one of the organisations, Save the Children being the other, for whom we raised funds at Celebratory Luncheon held in October.
  • Ongoing commitment to fund raise for Rainbows Children’s Hospice.
  • Soroptimist Housing (Leicester) Limited - 8 low cost accommodation for women aged 55 or over.
  • As part of World Environment Day in June 2008 we raised funds to dedicate 10 trees in Pear Tree Wood in Ratby Leicestershire organised through The Woodland Trust. The dedication reads Soroptimist International Leicester’s 75th anniversary 1934 - 2009.
  • A number of us have been listening to children read under the ‘Right to Read’ scheme and have been on a refresher course organised by the Leicestershire Education Business Company.
  • As part of International Literacy Day last September we donated books to The Meadow Community Primary School in Wigston. This is the school where 3 of us go to listen to children read.
  • Following on from signing up to Leicester City of Sanctuary we had been collecting tins/jars of food/toiletries/kitchen items at our Business Meetings - We have now signed up to the ‘Golden Giver’ Challenge which involves us donating 50 bags or small boxes of food and other supplies in the next twelve months. There is separate information on what is required and we already have 2 donations recorded on our record card.

We are hoping to undertake a project on or around the International Day for Older Persons on 1 October 2009 and are in discussion with Age Concern regarding this
