		<title>A Busy March for Llandudno &#38; District</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It has been a busy time for members of S.I Llandudno. The March business meeting was held at Stella Maris. Members were told that to date nearly £3000 had been given to various organisations during the year and members agreed to the distribution of the remaining money in the Charity account. President Joanne thanked members for all their hard work and effort in the many and various ways that the money had been raised. Since the last meeting, members have contributed to SIAN [South Asian Immediate Action Network] for children in Haiti. Members attended S.I. Rhyl’s Gwyl Dewi celebration. On Saturday 6 March the Region’s conference was held in Llandudno, celebrating 75 years of Soroptimist Achievement marking United Nations International Woman’s Day and the presentation of the Regions Woman of Achievement Award. S.I. Llandudno were especially pleased that the recipient was Sarah Kersley Wooller MBE who was nominated by S.I. Llandudno .Other speakers at the conference was Jackie Mosedale , President of Soroptimist International of Great Britain &amp; Ireland [SIGBI] who spoke about her recent visit to India and Bangladesh, Anne MacDonald OBE gave an update on Project Sierra, Sue Challoner spoke about Soroptimist involvement with Fair Trade. The concluding speaker was Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe  MP who spoke on “The Life and Times of Ann Widdecombe” an amusing talk enjoyed by all with much laughter. On Sunday, the Club held their 47 Charter Luncheon at the Imperial Hotel. The Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr. Janet Jones, the Region President, Mrs. Shirley Jones were present as well as members of other clubs and guests including the clubs Honorary Member Mrs. Betty Williams MP. The guest speaker was Ian Turner who spoke about his activities and experience as a fund raiser for many charities including Childline. The next meeting will be on 18 March at St. David’s Church Hall, Penrhyn Bay.</p>

SIGBI not only covers all the clubs in Britain and Ireland but also clubs in, Anguilla, Antigua, Barbua, Bangladesh, Barbados, Cameroon, The Gambia, Grenada, India, Jamaica, Malawi, Malta, Mauritius, Nigeria, Pakistan, Seychlles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, St. Vincent &amp;The Grenadines, Trinidad &amp; Tobago, Turks &amp; Caicos, Uganda, Zimbabwe.<strong></strong> A mathematician by profession and up to 2000, she was Deputy Principal of Rydal Penrhos School, Colwyn Bay. She is currently Treasurer of the S.I.Region of Cheshire, North Wales &amp;Wirral and a past President of S.I.Llandudno. She is a volunteer for WRVS at Llandudno Hospital Tea Bar,  a volunteer with the National Trust, secretary of North Wales Branch of Friends of Welsh National Opera.</p>
