President’s message

Welcome to the London Chilterns section of the website!
My chosen theme for year is “LET’S GOSSIP!” … it translates to “Go Out and Spread Soroptimism In Public”.
When thinking up this theme and how it could be broken down I thought of a woman … more importantly a Soroptimist! Every Soroptimist has certain attributes that differentiate us:
-
Firstly our backbone is our membership; it provides us with strength and keeps our heads held high. There are over 200 women of many ages, backgrounds and professions across our region who come together to make a difference on a regular basis.
-
The second attribute is our heart which is crucial as it keeps us alive and active. Program action is the heart of everything we do and it is this work that which gives us our UN status. Please visit some of our program action work at www.soroptimist-ukpac.org/ Within this region our program action work has raised awareness about breast cancer, challenged issues concerning women’s safety, educated women and children, supported the National Missing Persons Helpline with “Missing Miles” walks, reduced our carbon footprint and promoted conflict resolution and peace. Soroptimists can not stay alive without their heart or program action; they are one in the same thing.
-
Thirdly, our voice is one of the most important tools we have and we all know that women are excellent communicators. We need to use this to our advantage as it is the main way we can raise awareness of Soroptimism and advance the work that we do.
-
The final attribute that we sometimes forget is our soul it deals with our emotions and guides us to happiness. Friendship and fun are fundamental to our success and our individual growth as Soroptimists – they are our soul!

Yours in friendship,
Laura Redhead
