All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding. The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI London Mayfair:

HOSPICE UGANDA

President’s Charity of the Years 2006-08 Hospice Uganda - a model palliative care initiative in Africa.

Hospice Africa was registered as a charity in the UK in August 1993. Hospice Africa (Uganda) commenced their service for patients and families on 23 September 1993. Hospice Uganda was registered as an NGO in October 1994.
Hospice Africa was conceived as a support group for an African Hospice which would be a model not only for the country in which it was based, but for all African countries so that Hospice philosophy and care could be adapted to the cultural and economic requirements of each country.
Following a feasibilty study of those African countries requesting Hospice services, Uganda was chosen for the “Model” Hospice.
The objectives of Hospice Africa and Hospice Uganda in 1993 and now are:
1) To provide a palliative care service to patients and families living within a 20km radius of Kampala. To promote this care throughout Uganda.
2) To carry out education programmes in palliative medicine, to health professionals at undergraduate and postgraduate levels throughout Uganda so that this form of care can be available to all patients in need.
3) To encourage the initiation of hospices in other African countries, which have not yet a Hospice, by providing a facility at Hospice Uganda for training of initiators, allowing them to see hospice working in the African context.
