PROJECT MALA

Speakers from Project Mala in May 2001 enthused London Mayfair to support the provision of non formal education combined with vocational training for children in a very poor area of India. In the past few years the daughters of poor weavers have been sponsored at a cost of £108 p.a. per child. This not only provides education and training in trades such as carpet weaving, soap and candle making, but regular meals, uniforms and health checks. Regular reports are received on each child’s progress and health. Project Mala’s aim is the elimination of child labour in the knotted carpet industry.
