About our Club
We currently have 22 members ranging in age from 40 to 94, working full-time, part-time, retired or doing voluntary work in education, civil service, administration, librarianship, health services, charity and voluntary services.
In recent years the club has been involved in several projects, including the creation of a garden for the Rehabilitation Ward at Loughborough General Hospital, which we continue to maintain. We support Rainbows Children’s Hospice, Loughborough Women’s Refuge, the Bridge (Charnwood Housing Advice) and raise funds for local charities. We also support the education of a young girl in India.
In the past our club has provided computer software for Glebe House, worked with the local Muslim community providing baby clothing & head scarves for women refugees, supplied a wheelchair to John Storer House, worked with the British Waterways Board in a canal clean-up, planted daffodils along the A512 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, and provided financial support to the Charnwood Toy Appeal, LOROS, Macmillan Nurses, Leicestershire Air Ambulance and Wateraid for water pumps in African villages. We have done extremely well in supporting Wishes for Kids, a Leicestershire charity which aims to grant the wishes of children who are terminally ill or have been abused and presented them with our biggest cheque ever.
This year we will work with Soroptimists in India to provide toilets in girl’s schools. We have provided a block already in liaision with Calcutta Downtown.

We enjoy ourselves with bonfire night parties, music evenings and a variety of fundraising events involving members and their families. SI Loughborough is one of 13 clubs in the East Midlands and members from all clubs frequently work together and meet for social occasions. Soroptimists have strong international links with other clubs all over the world and are offered hospitality in any country that they may visit on business or holiday. The Loughborough club has a link with SI Epinal, Loughborough’s twin town, and members from both clubs have visited each other.
Do you have skills or experience that are not being utilised? Do you want to make use of those skills, meet like-minded women and make new friends? You don’t have to be working full-time to join us - several of our members work part-time, are retired or do voluntary work. Members of any age are more than welcome to join us. If you would like to learn more about Soroptimist International or attend a meeting of the Loughborough Club please contact Sheila Scott at siloughborough@live.co.uk
