Soroptimist Gardeners help the growth of the “Cotton Tree”

The Kenilworth and District club celebrated sunny skies this last Bank Holiday by holding a fund-raising barbecue. President Trish Bennett hosted the event and was proud to be able to hand over the first donation to The Cotton Tree Children’s Trust, her charity for the year. The club also held a plant sale earlier this year at which £750 was raised. The money will help local woman Rosemary Bidwell, who sold her business to continue this work, to house and educate street orphans in Sierra Leone.

Over £550 was raised at the barbecue which will be shared between The Cotton Tree Trust and Project Sierra. Guests were each asked to bring a bottle and the resulting wheelbarrow full of alcoholic and soft drinks was raffled. Three lucky winners shared the spoils.
