Earlier this year members of Central Birmingham and West Birmingham joined together for a bridge day to raise funds for Project SIerra. A good time was had by all.

On a cold December evening, about 40 members and friends of SI Coventry gathered to celebrate International Day. Funds raised during the evening are going to support “Restoring Dignity”, a charity for the women at Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. Gabrielle welcomed everyone including Regional President Isobel.
The welcome was followed by the candle lighting ceremony. Candles were lit for Soroptimist friends in various parts of the world, including Arnhem; County Cork; Deakin, Australia and St Etienne. Alison also lit candles for absent friends.
This was followed by a delicious Polish “Huntsman Supper” with rye bread and unsalted butter followed by a selection of tempting desserts. While drinking coffee those present were entertained by readings of limericks and poems. A prize was awarded for the most original limerick. Gareth Jones the club’s “resident actor” caused much laughter by his reading of an ode.
A very enjoyable evening ended with songs from the Polish Community Centre Choir.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Supper 20th September 2008
This was the first Regional fund-raiser for Fresh Start and what a night! Diamonds and bling, Audrey Hepburn look-alikes and fun and laughter were the order of the night. Regional members pulled out all the stops to create an ambiance to remember with, meeters and greeters, super decorations, wine, marvellous usherettes complete with fishnet tights and toches, free ice-cream and a fantastic raffle. Along with all the fun, food and lovely film we made £2200 for our project in Uganda. Soroptimists working together can make a difference.

Once again members of SI Stratford upon Avon and District celebrated the UN International Day of Peace by lighting candles in various local churches. This year candles were lit in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrew’s Church, Shottery and Stratford Methodist Church.
Two members also attended the Stratford United Nations Association Tree of Peace ceremony in Shottery.

The Kenilworth Festival gave the Kenilworth club a great opportunity to support their local community. The Festival celebrated the town’s heritage as well as its exciting renewal.
Working in partnership with the local Rotary Club, Soroptimists hosted the three day art show as well as organising the sports events on the Sunday.

Over £550 was raised at the barbecue which will be shared between The Cotton Tree Trust and Project Sierra. Guests were each asked to bring a bottle and the resulting wheelbarrow full of alcoholic and soft drinks was raffled. Three lucky winners shared the spoils.
