Fundraising - Springtime Boutique

This was our last fundraising event for President Christina’s year of office and was for her chosen charity, Lowdown. Alwyn Wilson kindly hosted this event at her home on Saturday 18th April. Members donated new or nearly new clothes and accessories to be “recycled” to new owners! Things we bought which didn’t suit or didn’t fit and we didn’t get around to taking back to the shop. We all have these things cluttering up our wardrobes accusingly and it was nice to make sure they have a chance of being used.

Year beginning April 2010 - This year will be run by a selection of our Past Presidents to ensure an exciting mixture of meetings, events and service projects. The photographs show them at work and play!

Hospital gardens - Local Service Project

Some years ago Moya McVicar arranged for us to become involved with the gardens at the local hospital where she has been a very active patient advocate and part of the wider management team.

We started by clearing up the Stroke Unit Garden, adding new plants and keeping it tidy so that it was returned to an uncluttered pleasant area for the patients and staff of that unit to use.

We then found another neglected garden area to adopt. This is adjacent to Spencer Ward and is available to all hospital patients and their visitors.

No prior gardening knowledge is required for volunteers as we have a small green-fingered group who can direct the less experienced worker bees..but all help is greatly appreciated.

We meet on the 1st Saturday in the month at approximately 9.30. In the summer when the evenings are light, we meet in the evening once a month. Bring your gloves, and a few garden tools and refuse bags if you have them.

See the entry under the Club News section to see the hard work put in by our green fingered members to this Club Service Project.

Workshop - Tapping into your New Year’s Resolutions - 11th Jan 2009

Our President, Christina Elvin’s  a workshop on Sunday 11th January was designed (among other things) to help us reinforce all the resolutions we make at New Year in order to improve our lives. Christina is trained (and a trainer) in many different techniques and disciplines and gave us 3 hours of her valuable time for a donation of £25 per person.

All proceeds went towards her chosen charity for her year - The Lowdown.

This workshop showed us how to use a specific tapping technique which you just may have seen used on tv by a certain well-known hypnotist.  So here’s your chance to learn this new technique, for you to be able to use it on yourself, and it only involves you tapping on yourself with your own fingers.  You’ll be tapping on certain points on your face, upper body and hands.

So if your New Year Resolution was to:
getter fitter,
lose weight,
get that promotion,
become a non-smoker,
improve your sports performance,
write that book or simply relax more
this technique will help you to help yourself get where you want to be.
Venue: at Richmond-Villages Northampton generously sponsored by Richmond-Villages
Date: Sunday 11th January 2009
Time: 10 am to 1pm

(This venue is also known as the Freemasons’ Hall but Soroptimist International of Northampton has no affiliation with any particular religious or non-religious organisation. It was chosen as it is geographically appropriate, has good facilities and ample parking space.)

Most of our meetings commence at 19.30. An optional supper is provided at a reasonable cost at 18.30. If you require supper, please contact our Supper Secretary, Esme Mathieson, no later than the Friday prior to the meeting.
