Who are we ? : SI Port Talbot was chartered in 1948 and at present we have twenty-eight members from a variety of professions and voluntary and other organizations, and one Honorary Member. We are active in the community and enjoy meeting together for fellowship and fun.
The Soroptimist International Club of Port Talbot is one of the 20 Clubs in the Region of Wales South.
Members of SI Port Talbot are active locally through service and fund-raising projects, and at national and international levels in partnership with other Soroptimist clubs and organizations, to improve the lives of women and girls.
Where are we ? : Port Talbot is located in the traditional County of Glamorgan, South Wales at the far west of the Vale of Glamorgan along the M4 Motorway Corridor on the coast between Cardiff & Swansea. The town is built along the eastern rim of Swansea Bay in a narrow strip of coastal plane surrounding the River Afan (Avon) Estuary – the old name of the town being Aberavon. Port Talbot is now part of the unitary authority of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
For many people the town of Port Talbot means steel, modern industry and grey rooftops seen from the M4 Motorway, however it has a rich and varied history and the area contains evidence of over 2,000 years of continuous habitation.
Look and you will find peace and beauty both in the surrounding mountains, parkland and valleys down to the long stretch of sandy beach fronting the town, Aberavon Beach - where we meet at a local hotel.
