President’s Message
President’s Welcome to Website 2009/10
I wish you a warm welcome to the web pages of Soroptimist International (SI) Reigate and District.
The club was founded in 1961, since then members have been involved in numerous projects in the local community and further afield predominantly for the benefit of women and children. We are a friendly, active and welcoming club consisting of members from a wide range of professions with many varied interests.
During my year as President the club’s focus is on helping women and children who suffer from abuse, neglect and deprivation. The two charities we are specifically supporting this year are Reigate and Banstead Women’s Aid who run a refuge and a move-on house for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The second is The Khayalethu Centre in Port Elizabeth, South Africa which is a home for street children from the ages of 5 to 19. They are taken in, given a bed, food, clothing and education and are taught skills to enable them to find employment and be self sufficient when they leave the centre at nineteen years old.
We have several fund raising and social events planned for this year. The first of which is a Fashion Show and Sale of High Street stores end of ranges and surplus stock in May, then in June we are running a bottle stall at Redhill Carnival.
