PROGRAMME ACTION REPORT - REIGATE March to September 2009

  • Toiletries for Gatwick Detainees

Members continue to donate toiletries for detainees held at Gatwick so that individuals can have their own rather than communal products

  • Books for East Surrey Hospital
We collect paperback books from friends, family and neighbours and donate them to our local hospital for use by the patients.
  • Talking Newspapers

SI Reigate and Rotary members record the local newspapers onto tapes which are distributed to the blind residents of the borough. This is an invaluable service that is greatly appreciated by the many recipients. Long may it continue

  • President’s charity 2008-9 – Canine Partners.

This charity is part of the Assistance Dogs worldwide. These working dogs enable disabled people to access independence and totally changes the lives of these people. A cheque to the value of £2850 was presented to representatives of this charity at our AGM in April.

  • Jingle Jars

Members continue to collect their small change in a jar with Project Sierra labels and they will be handed in to the treasurer at our February 2010 meeting for counting and a cheque will be raised for the Quadrennial Appeal - Project Sierra.

  • President Rita’s Charities 2009-10

We are raising funds for two charities this year:

  • Reigate and Banstead Women’s Aid
  • Khayalethu Centre for street children in Port Elizabeth South Africa which our friendship link club in PE supports.
  • Raising Awareness

Our members are actively involved in raising awareness of not only Soroptimist International but also Water Aid, Surrey Air Ambulance, Purple Teardrop Campaign at local functions attended by members of the general public.

  • Ongoing service in the community

A great number of the members continue with a wide range of links to charities and initiatives in the  local   community.
