Programme Action - Women’s Refuges

In the past, SI Sheffield had an ongoing connection with Oakdale House - an Independent Women’s Refuge in Sheffield.
We would receive regular reports on the work at the refuge and made annual donations of money and goods.

It has been decided to try and again build an association with refuges for women in this City, so that we may increase our understanding of the problems faced by the women who use the facilities offered and in turn help to provide the refuges with the much needed resources.

We have made contact with two refuges in Sheffield, namely;

Ashiana Women’s Refuge

Sheffield Women’s Refuge

These refuges provide safe short term accommodation, care and basic necessities for women who flee their own homes, because of physical and mental abuse. The Ashiana Refuge primarily helps Asian and black women.

Although the refuges do receive a certain amount of government funding, a large amount of the resources required are provided by charitable giving.

We have arranged for representatives from the two organisations to come along and talk to our club members, so that we can learn about the valuable work they do.

The club is committed to assisting the refuges by collecting goods (toiletries, basic clothes and toys) for the residents and making donations.
