About our Club

St Austell town centre’s long awaited regeneration includes an imaginative and impressive artwork, a reproduction of an original work by local Tromp L’oeil artist Janet Shearer. It measures 10 meters by 9.5m and covers the entire gable end of a building. It depicts famous/well known people who were born or lived in St Austell sitting in the Clay Cafe, overlooked by Daphne Du Maurier on the balcony. They are Nigel Martyn ( England Goalkeeper), Gemma Simpson (athlete), AL Rouse ( author & scholar) Walter Hicks (founder of St Austell Brewery), Silvanus Trevail (architect), William Cookworthy (discoverer of China Clay), John Nettles (actor), Bishop Colenso, Captain Percy Phillips, Jack Clemo (writer & poet)

Welcome to the website of St Austell & District
In November 2009 we celebrated 32 years since we were chartered. We have over 40 members, women from a wide range of business and the professions. We are the only club in Cornwall. Founder member Wendy Plaice has been elected President of the South West and Channel Islands Region 2009-2010 which is a great honour for the club, which will be hosting the Region Annual General meeting and Conference at the Headland Hotel in Newquay on 26th June 2010 followed by a Black Tie Dinner with Music for a Summers evening.
We hold our business meetings on the first Thursday in the month (except January and August ) at Tregorrick Park the home of St Austell Rugby Club. On the third Thursday we have a variety of events from speaker/supper evenings, fundraising events and trips to places of interest often related to our Programme action work (service activities).
