Club member Heather Bishop and husband Pete, live in New Zealand in the winter months. Heather visits SI Canterbury Club when living there. They came acreoss club member Ann Truscott and husband Bill, on holiday, miles from nowhere at a waterfall. What a small world!

President Barbara welcomes transfer member Sally Wilding to the club. Sally has been a Soroptimist for 20 years a member of Kenilworth and Central Birmingham Clubs. She has ‘retired’ to cornwall and lives in Flushing. We hope she will feel welcome in our club and able to contribute to our activities. Several members met Sally at the Cardiff Conference.

Fire Safety Evening February 18th 2010

Martin and Keith of Green Watch St Austell came to talk to us about Fire Safety in the home. They offered to come round to our homes and fit free smoke alarms!

February 2010 Business meeting - Goodbye to Ann Kesteven

Members were sad to see Ann Kesteven for the last time as a member of our club. She transferred from SI Maidstone in 96, a very active club member, going to Region and Conference, supporting our programme action events, starting the club newsletter and serving time as minutes secretary. President Barbara presented her with a leaving present on behalf of the club. Ann hopes to transfer to SI Weston super Mare.

Treasurer Barbara reported that The President’s Charity Account - The Radio Cornwall Appeal stands at £2662. President Barbara presented club member Carole Gardner (Church Warden at St Blazey) with a cheque for £300 for the church appeal for funding for a new kitchen. £288 had been raised at the Wassail held in St Blazey Church. Club member Jo Bennett reported that she had raised £539 for the Hospice from the sale of Christmas cards, £330 from club members.

Jean invited members to attend a concert by Restormel Concert Band at truo Methodist Churh on 6th Feb in support of the Haiti appeal

Judith’s months of lobbying have finally won the day! Two bays for vehicles with access ramps are to be sited adjacent to the new toilet block in the Priory car park in St Austell. Thank you Andy Cook of Cornwall Council Environment Service

Tropical Evening - in Par- in January ?

President Barbara hosted a fun evening of music- desert island discs, brain teasers and delicious tropical food and drink. We were asked to come dressed for a tropical island , a nice idea to cheer us up in the depths of winter. Throwing coins at a bottle of rum proved a popular sport and £56 was raised for The SIGBI Emergency Relief Fund for the Haiti Earthquate victims.

Wassail party - St Blazey Church - 17th December 2009

Holding our party in the beautifully decorated St Blazey Church added the wow factor to the occasion. A big thank you to Carole, Brenda, Jean, Ailie and the social committee for the great food and drink, Brenda’s qizzes and music from President Elect Kay & her son James completed the night. Many family and friends joined us including 2 guests from Perth Australia and Kate Mosedale the Federation President’s daughter.

Whilst President Barbara was in Worthing at the birth of her newest granddaughter Iris Blue, President Elect Kay chaired the December meeting. SW &CI Region President Wendy conducted the joining ceremony for new member Anne Double.
