Social Events
The club arranges a number of social events through the year. These are organised to raise funds to support our Soroptimist charities. The President nominates a range of charities and asks for the club’s support.
Last year, our local charity was Helping Hands (Friends of Sudbury Resource Centre) and our national charity was the Alzheimer’s Society. These charities shared about £2 000 from our fund-raising activities.
Our international focus for the club is Tools with a Mission - we collect all sorts of tools and send them through an international organisation, to needy countries all over the world.
The club has already organised a successful Fashion Show and raised £600 for Project SIerra, our international Soroptimist project. This was held at Bures Community Centre in Bures, Suffolk. This was a very popular event and our members and friends made a good start to the holiday season by adding wonderful items to their summer wardrobe. Soroptimists enjoyed shopping with their friends and were more then happy to give each other advice!
In June, Juliet organised a Charity Lunch in her garden for Water Aid. It was a perfect English Summer day and we raised over £1 000 including a raffle.
Our next social event is a make-up and jewellery evening for women. This will be held in November at the home of one of our members. Make-up and jewellery from Virgin Vie.
