« NEW SOROPTIMIST PRESIDENT INSTALLED AT AGM BOOKBUGS APRIL 2009 »

BLITZ NIGHT FOR FYLDE SOROPTIMISTS!

Fylde Soroptimists enjoyed a Blitz of celebrations for the first social event of new President Pat Fergusson’s year of office.

St. George’s Day was the date for the club’s 72nd birthday and a Blitz Night party with costumes, food and entertainment of the 1940’s.

Soroptimister Roland Jones (see above with Wendy Grimshaw), accompanied by member Mrs. Pippa Kirk on the piano and PA officer Sue Smith, as Mistress of Ceremonies, recreated the wartime atmosphere of the air-raid shelters with sirens and lighting, songs and reminiscences from after-dinner speaker, Mr. Tom Sutton who gave a ‘lighter’ view of some of the escapades and tribulations of his childhood in Merseyside.

Sixty guests travelling from as far afield as Cumbria and SI Skipton joined together for a warm and noisy evening, although far-better fed than wartime rations, courtesy of the clubhouse Trolley Dollies, Victoria Underwood-Jones and Sheila Haworth.

A ‘St. George’ quiz raised funds for Project Sierra. Local charities will benefit from the event

Excellent message and information Madam President Pat!!

It reflects the fun and frienship which can be experienced whilst working together on serious projects for our wonderful organisation.

It should encourage professional women with a social conscience to join us all.

Good wishes for a successful year.

    Betty
