MEDICINE, MOTHERHOOD AND MINISTRY

Fylde Soroptimists enjoyed a talk by Dr Susan Salt, Medical Director of Trinity Hospice, at their first speaker meeting of the Club’s year.
Susan entertained all the members with her recollections of days as a medical student, her moves to London, Rochdale and Halifax, her marriage to an Anglican priest and her gradual career move into palliative medicine combined with bringing up two girls.
Now settled in Thornton where her husband has his parish, Susan became involved with Trinity some three years ago, having been impressed by its reputation on the Fylde Coast and by the knowledge that local residents already had about the hospice movement. Her previous experiences had been somewhat different due to having worked in much smaller hospice environments.
All were very interested to hear of Susan’s progression from a student to that of Medical Director at Trinity and of the way she combined this with her work as a lay reader for the Anglican Church, which means she can undertake a burial service in any cemetery belonging to the Church.
Dr Susan was thanked on behalf of President Pat Fergusson and all members by Michelle Smith.
