Programme Action

Dear All

Please find attached the Regional Programme Action Minutes from November’s meeting.  These have been sent separately to Club Programme Action Reps so apologies to those who get them twice, but I know other members like to cast a glance over them so am sending them out more widely.

Also a reminder that the next regional meeting is on the 6th February.  There are two excellent speakers for the day - in the morning we have Monica Dickens to speak about ’A Dignified Revolution’ - http://dignifiedrevolution.org.uk/    In the afternoon we have Jeff Edge from Mary’s Meals - this is an excellent project that you may have seen at conference as they had a stand  http://www.marysmeals.org/

I know President Sue, other regional officers and myself look forward to seeing you there.  (And we will finish in time for you to get back in time for the Wales/England match later that afternoon!).

 To all Wales South members:

Hi everyone,
Can I please clarify some web sites and passwords and there seems to be a little confusion at the moment.

1.   The International database. which is used for reporting our Programme Action work.  This is accessed via the Soroptimist International website - http://www.soroptimistinternational.org/  and via the ‘Online Reporting’ section on the left hand side.  The specific address for the database is http://reports.soroptimistinternational.org/  - you can also search there and see what amazing projects are undertaken throughout our Federation.    I am now a total convert to the database - the statistics being gathered are amazing!  You can discover via the database is in the previous 12 months, over $9,000,000 has been raised by Soroptimist clubs internationally.  Wow!!  What a great statistic that is!    (And again, why it is so important to get your club’s work onto the database).  To access the database you need the username of sigbi and the password stockport.

 2.   The UK Programme Action Committee website can be found at http://www.soroptimist-ukpac.org/ There is a great range of information on there on the role of the UK PAC and the work undertaken by clubs in the UK.  You will hopefully shortly be able to see the photos of our Zip Wire Challenge for LLF on there.  As I have said before, each club has a page on this website - if you send me photos and a short paragraph on one of your projects I will pass them on to Heather knott who is the webmistress and will ensure they go into your club’s section.  Action photos preferred!   The password to enter the members section of this website is springchicken.

I would be grateful if members would keep a record of these and pass them on to new members, etc.  If any of the above is still not clear, please do contact me.

Many thanks
Pam

To Wales South Clubs:
I have recently received a link to the Chief Police Officer’s review of what measures can be taken to tackle serial perpetrators of violence against women and thought members might be interested in reading it.  Be aware before you print - it is nearly 97 pages long - it can be read perfectly well on screen.

FGM

To all clubs

Please see below/attachements for details of training on FGM, Forced Marriage/Honour Based Violence/Domestic Abuse from a BME perspective. These courses are being put on by BAWSO - those who were at the February regional meeting will remember we have an excellent talk from Shaheen from BAWSO and may wish to follow up by attending one/all of these courses. Do note that the cost of courses is much cheaper if you go as a representative as your club/organisation rather than an individual. I’m sure clubs could justify paying for someone to attend as these are areas of Violence Against Women that we are all concerned about.

Domestic Abuse

Dear All
I have recenctly received an updated Map for Domestic Abuse Services in Wales (attached). I know it has at least one error on it in that there is no One Stop Shop in the Vale of Glamorgan but hopefully is otherwise accurate. This mapping exercise has been carried as part of the updatingof the Welsh Assembly Government’s Domestic Abuse Strategy. If anyone else is aware of any inaccuracies could they let me know please.
Many thanks
Pam

CLUSTER BOMBS

Dear All
As most of you know, Kay Richmond is the Soroptomist Rep on Landmine Action. I thought you should all have the opportunity of reading this latest email (see below) and attachment from Kay detailing the latest discussion on the Cluster Munitions ban. It makes very interesting reading and good to hear that Soroptimism was mentioned in the debate.
