● Local and UK Projects

We also support local and national concerns. This year these include:

Jumbulance Trust

This is a small charitable trust with 4 unique and specialised vehicles (JUMBULANCES) which are part coach and part ambulance. Jumbulances are designed to transport people (known as VIPs) who are sick or disabled over long distances in comfort and safety with the help of volunteers (nurses, carers and where needed a doctor). We are raising money to support this very worthwhile charity which makes travel possible for even the severely disabled and transforms their lives. We plan to sponsor young carers (who would not otherwise have the funds) to support VIPs on their travels.

Abbeyfield Winchester

Club members work with the local Abbeyfield residential home for the elderly in many capacities. We run a 300 Club to raise funds. We sit on both the executive and house committees which, this year, means that we are involved in managing an extension project which will more than double the size of the home. The new building has been named Thornton Housein honour ofPat Thornton, one of our members, now deceased, who was very instrumental in establishing the original house. Now the building work is completed we have provided funds for improvements to the garden.

Age Concern Winchester

We sponsor one of Age Concern’s lunch clubs, providing a hot balanced meal and social interaction four times a week for the elderly within 15 miles of the city.

Sexual health for women over 40
Our aim is to increase awareness and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in women of all ages, but particularly focusing on women aged 40 and above.

We are working on the following ideas:

Playing the STD game at SI meetings across the UK.
Educate SI members and encourage them to spread the message to their friends and families.
Produce public information leaflets.
Broaden the range of areas where free condoms are available.
Use theatre and humour.
Use appropriate targeted media - e.g. Saga.
