Discovering how waste is re-cycled in the Woking area

Members of Woking club are passionate about recycling as much waste as possible and were delighted when they were able to visit the Grundons Material Recovery Facility in Leatherhead to see exactly how the process works in our area. There are differences between what products can and cannot be recycled in different areas of the country and we found it fascinating to see how the colection of mixed “Goods IN” was so meticulously separated by various manual and mechanical methods, and the gigantic bales and sacks of “Goods OUT”.
We enjoyed the tour enormously and found it most enlightening. We now understand why the collections in Woking are organised the way they are and are even more determined to “think before we throw” when putting our waste out for collection.
